That's the thing. Donna actually could sing. If only she didn't caterwaul. why did she ever think that yowling was pleasant?

if you pay close attention to Donna's caterwauling you will notice that it happens mostly when she is "dueting" with a certain Mr. Weir, who always seemed to have pitch problems of his own. Even with the Grateful Dead, she sounded much better singing with Jerry.

She did sound better with Jerry, she also sounded much better with studio enhancement. But, if you've listened to any Donna and the Buffalo, she sounds better solo as well. Not to knock Bobby, he get's his share of pain on the list, and sure, some of that's deserved. But, the point here is that even if Bobby were off-key, she could have at least tried to sing during those moments.

Veblen and I talked last night about Bobby's shortcomings as a guitarist, and I had to defend, well, basically because Veblen simply wouldn't. So, I had to talk about bobby's Jazz sensibilities as a rhythm guitarist. He spent a lot of time listening to Jerry's indirect approach to leading. You'd need to be creative to be a rhythm player to match Jerry. Where Bobby failed was his miserable attempts at slide, I would think that goes without question. Though he did get better, it took years.
